Super Junior member Kim Ryeo Wook is enlisting in the army very soon and this was confirmed by his agency, SM Entertainment. He is set to leave for boot camp on June 14.
According to The Chosun Ilbo, the "Little Prince" singer is set to begin his basic military training on the said date and this will be completed for five weeks. Later on, after the training graduation ceremony, he will be dispatched to an undisclosed military base where he will be reporting for duty as an active soldier for 21 months.
With barely three months left before enlistment, the Super Junior vocalist is now wrapping up his remaining schedules and activities. He has been busy with concerts, stage plays, radio shows and recently with solo album promotions.
Kim would be the 10th member of Super Junior to enlist and Cho Kyu Hyun would be the last one to join the army. Cho's enlistment date is not known yet but he is expected to make an announcement soon.
It is common for fans and the media to come to the barracks to send-off their idols and for press coverage, and this is why the enlistment of popular personalities are often loud. In view of this, SM Entertainment released a notice that Kim wants to go quietly thus they are requesting fans not to come to the ceremony anymore, KBS World Radio reported.
In 2015, Kim's Super Junior bandmates Lee Sung Min, Shin Dong, Choi Siwon, Lee Dong Hae and Eun Hyuk entered the army. Two members - Sung Min and Shin Dong - are set to be discharged in December since they enlisted in the first quarter of 2015.
In South Korea, all healthy men who are between 18 to 35 years old are required to serve in the army for 24 months and anyone who would avoid or refuse the conscription is imprisoned. The government and locals also condemn those who dodge the enlistment and this is why the compulsory military service is such a very sensitive matter in the region.
Meanwhile, another popular singer, Lee Seung Gi, already completed his basic army training on March 17. He has already been deployed to the Special Warfare Command and will officially start his service.
