An Audi spokesman in the United States said that almost 80,000 cars and SUVs are needed to be recalled worldwide and about two thirds of it is in the US and China. While on Germany, A VW spokesman announced that only a few of a hundred are involved in the country since the recall affects only one model.
Porsche will recall about 13, 500 cars all with Volkswagen and Audi Engine. All the affected vehicles have 3-liter V6 engines, according to KRMG.
The National Traffic Safety Administration reported the recall of Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche. According to the report 2012 model year Audi A6 Volkswagen Touareg hybrid, model year 2012 to 2013 Audi A7 and the model year 2011 to 2012 Audi Q7, S4 and S5 are included on the recall.
The report says that vibrations and production issues will cause a leak in a live engine or a moving vehicle in rare cases. And with an ignition a small leak can possibly cause a vehicle fire. The report has been issued after receiving concerns regarding fuel leaks on some model.
Volkswagen claimed their unawareness of any report of injuries or of a vehicle fire but the NHTSA claimed that they received consumer's concerns regarding the leak. An owner of the 2012 Audi A6 reported that fumes come out of the car's hood and air conditioner vent. The report was also acknowledged by local dealers.
There are no known reports of injuries caused by the gas leak. Owners of the recalled vehicles will be notified on March once the issue has been resolved, according to the Wall Street Journal.
