Announced last month, "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon" are the center of focus in the Pokémon series that has become even more popular 20 years after the release of the first installment. It is likely that there will be more than 1000 Pokémon by the time the series turns 30 years.
Apart from the new creatures, new games in the series always sport something new that makes the gameplay more fascinating, although an overhaul for the story or villains will not be probable. For instance, the most recent installments in the series, "Pokémon X and Y," incorporated Mega Evolutions - an inclusion that was so famous that it appeared back in "Pokémon Omega Ruby" and "Pokémon Alpha Sapphire."
Fans have already started wondering which Pokémon will receive a Mega Evolution in the upcoming "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon." YouTuber MandJTVPokevids has teased that the starters from the Johto region, including Cyndaquil, Totodile, and Chikorita, will receive Mega Evolutions in "Sun" and "Moon." In "Pokémon X and Y," the first-gen starters - Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle - received Mega Evolutions, and therefore, it is time for the Silver and Gold starters to receive theirs.
It is likely that Solrock and Lunatone will also receive Mega Evolutions since they look like "Sun" and "Moon." However, it is unlikely that these two will be central to the upcoming games. Fans should wait for updates from Japanese Magazine CoroCoro, which is reputable for giving details on Pokémon games.
The March issue of CoroCoro had a brief mention of "Pokémon Sun and Moon," and teased what readers should expect from the upcoming issue, according to iDigital Times. The issue highlighted "Pokémon Sun and Moon" logos with the disclaimer that from the April issue that will be released on April 15, details of the generation 7 games would gradually be unveiled in "special features" of the publication. The games may come out during the holiday season of this year, although the promise of details in April implies that gamers should expect a solid release date soon.
"Pokémon X and Y" that were released back in 2013 had their first details of a new generation of the games come with the starter Pokémon. According to a different report from the same publication, the reveal of Fennekin, Froakie, and Chespin alongside the Yveltal and Xerneas - the legendaries of the generation - were unveiled in CoroCoro ahead of the Pokémon Company official announcement through a video.
Mega Evolutions featured months later, starting with Kanto Starters and Mega Mewtwo Y, before gradually unveiling the new Pokémon. With the confirmation that April 15 will feature the "Pokémon Sun and Moon" details, fans should expect to see something on the Mega Evolutions.
