It has been a year since Zayn Malik left the One Direction band and it seems that the two still have some unresolved issues.
The 23-year-old boy band member-turned-solo singer recently opened up about his current relationship with former bandmates, and it appears that Malik is not holding down his emotions anymore.
In March 2015, Malik's representative announced the singer's departure from the band, who is currently enjoying an extended hiatus. Now, the singer is embarking on a solo career under RCA Records. He revealed that there is a slight tension between himself and other members of the band, adding that Liam Payne is the only one who has stayed in contact with him.
"I tried to have contact but nobody's reached out. So... whatever. I'm still probably the closest to Liam," Malik said in an interview with NME Magazine.
The singer then said that his mysterious public persona is his way of staying sane, as he already knows how the media works. He added that he would prefer not to become involved with something that is not real.
"You can be the biggest band in the world for a certain time," he said. "But that ends."
Malik's statement incited fans to ask whether that is his reason for leaving the boy band, adding that he already seems to know that he had to get out before the time limit expired. The singer then quickly responded and clarified that it is not what he means. "But if I did then f--k me, I've got a great brain," he quipped.
The singer previously uncovered the explanation behind his take-off in an interview with The Complex Magazine. Malik got frustrated over the strict style rules being implied that constrained him to shave off his beard and not dyeing his hair. He added that being untrue to who he was as a person while in the band says it all.
