Rumors say the Nexus 7 2016 on release date is likely a product coming from Huawei and that the tablet will be scaled down version of the Nexus 6P but still with premium inside and out. But if Google will elect to simply follow the route set by the first two versions, the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 is more than a decent base-model for the next-generation Pure Android slate.
Here are the reasons why:
8-inch profile but Nexus-like build
The Shield Tablet is actually a remake of its ill-fated 2014 predecessor, The Verge said in a review, and in building the new device Nvidia though it wise to play safe. The design and build is generic or far from the sexy profile that Apple and Samsung normally deploy with their tablets.
But beyond the unappealing look and build - a mixture of rubbery plastic and glass - the device does the job it is designed for, which mainly is mobile computing with a fair share of gaming. And the Shield Tablet is reminiscent of the Nexus 7 2012 and 2013 versions, made by Asus, that for some could be a plus factor.
A muscle tablet
One thing to love about the Nvidia device is the power it came with. Packed with the Nvidia DNA of gaming, the Shield Tablet will not disappoint. "Nvidia's K1 processor is more than capable of powering mobile games ... You have far more gaming options on the Shield Tablet than any other, and I'm impressed with how Nvidia has managed to build out its own ecosystem within Android ," The Verge said on its review.
But to make for a richer gaming experience, the optional Shield Controller is a must-have accessory, the report noted.
Clean Android
Nvidia has also the good sense of restraining its take on Android as the Shield Tablet boasts of an updated Marshmallow that is both light and mean. "The software is almost untouched save for a few preloaded Nvidia apps, most of which you'll actually want," the review said.
Right out of the box, the Nvidia slate is an Android made for gaming as The Verge pointed out the tablet was built around a premium gaming experience.
Dirt cheap
And the best thing about getting the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 is it will not break the bank. The $200 sticker price will be hard to match if indeed Google has already tap Huawei to supply the Nexus 7 2016 on release date.
