Hilton Worldwide is venturing into China with the launch of Hampton by Hilton Guangzhou Zhujiang New Town, the group's flagship hotel in the country.
The 223-room property boosts Hilton's portfolio consisting of 2,100 international hotels. The flagship project is situated in the Tianhe District in Guangdong Province. Managed by Huanpeng Hotel Management (Guangzhou) Limited, the property features a multifunction lobby and the signature Hampton restaurant, as well as meeting rooms and a fitness center.
"China is the 20th country that Hampton has entered, and for the city of Guangzhou, it is not only a strategic city and the 'south gate' of China, but is also the center of politics, economy, science, education and culture of Guangdong Province and the Pearl River Delta," said Phil Cordell, global head of Focused Service and Hampton Brand Management, Hilton Worldwide.
The launch underscores the emerging middle-class segment in the country and the changing landscape of midscale tourism in the world.
According to a study, more than 75 percent of local urban consumers are predicted to earn between $9,000 and $34,000 by 2022.
Meanwhile, a report from consulting company BCG and Alibaba's AliResearch indicates that China's upper middle class is set to fuel the country's consumption over the next five years.
"It represents a breakthrough for Hampton's development in the China market," said Cordell about the expansion in China.
China-based Plateno Group was tapped to develop the property as part of a five-year partnership with the Hilton group.
"[Plateno's] collaboration with Hilton Worldwide is in line with our business strategy and is aligned with our values of focusing on our customers' needs," said Alex Zheng, chief brand architect, founder and chairman president of Plateno Group.
"In 2015, Hampton by Hilton was warmly welcomed by investors and travelers," Zheng added. "With the opening of Hampton by Hilton Guangzhou Zhujiang New Town, we have opened a new chapter and more than 10 Hampton hotels are scheduled to open this year alone."
