Rafael Nadal is optimistic, but cautious about his goal for the season, which is to win as many tournaments as he can.
Nadal said in an interview with Deporte Total USA that his tennis plan for this year is to win tournaments as much as he can, but the 14-time Grand Slam winner insisted that it is only second to being in full health.
"I want to win as many tournaments as I can this year. [But] what matters first of all is to be healthy," Nadal said as translated by Tennis World USA. "Not only about not having injuries, but having good health in general. When you have that, everything else is less important."
So far, Nadal has never won a tournament this year, but was close to winning one at the Qatar Open in Doha, where the Spaniard lost in the final round against world No. 1 Novak Djokovic. Nadal's last victory was at the German Open in Hamburg last year, where he defeated Italy's Fabio Fognini 7-5 7-5.
Nadal is poised to record his first ATP World Tour-level title, with tournaments heading into clay-courts, where the Mallorcan won 47 of his 67 overall titles.
The 14-time Grand Slam winner starts his clay-season at the Monte Carlo Masters on Apr. 10-17, joining Djokovic and Roger Federer, who returns from a knee surgery that sidelined the Swiss Maestro for two months. Nadal will look to win a ninth Monte Carlo Masters title after winning the tournament in eight-straight appearances from 2005 to 2012.
Meanwhile, Nadal has revealed he is finally feeling good after withdrawing from the Miami Open due to a dizzy spell. The world No. 5 was forced to withdraw in the third set of his second round match against Bosnian Damir Dzumhur.
"If the health is fine in a couple of days and nothing is there, I will be ready in a couple of days and I hope to be ready for the clay," Nadal said, reports the India Times.
Home now & feeling good. Thanks for all your messages of support and to#jwmarriottmarquismiami & @jwmm_miami for their hospitality in Miami
