As speculations continue to swirl on the identity of the Google Nexus 2016 maker, a group of developers put together a tool that will allow a preview of what the next Nexus flagship will be. The Android N-ify Xposed module remains a work in progress but it unpacks specks of the next-generation Pure Android experience that will touchdown soon.
In essence, Android N-ify expands the coverage of the recently released Android N Developer Preview build that is accessible only to advanced users. Jammed into an Xposed Module, the modified software shared by members of XDA Developers will theoretically work on mobile devices running Google's mobile operating system. That means smartphones and tablets on the platform can now get a taste of the latest Android sweet cooked up by Google.
The tool is most helpful for owners of Android devices practically abandoned by OEMs. As noted by BGR in a report, the module should help speed up the migration from old Android versions to the most recent build. It is no secret that the upgrade cycle for most Android devices is painfully slow and Android N-ify partially addresses the problem.
And since the work is centered on Android N and the exciting feature upgrades to deploy with the software, the same tool is now a way to fast-track the arrival of the next Nexus experience. As can be imagined, everything about Android N-ify is Pure Android. The vanilla rendition of the OS is the prime motivation of the project.
In order to enjoy what Android N-ify has in store for users, XDA said that mobile devices will require rooting, which is a process that the site has plenty of guides to with. From there and once the tool is up and running, any Android device will be given the next Android treatment and in the process creating a mobile device setting that is closest to Nexus.
Android N-ify, for now, is the route available to plunge into the upcoming Nexus 2016 environment that Google has planned. The latest build still lacks the headline Android N features such as Split Screen, Freeform Mode and Night Mode but the developers have committed that these functions will be activated before the Android N final cut gets introduced via the Google I/O 20116 in May 18.
Meanwhile, rumors say that the device brand to be attached with the Google Nexus 2016 on release date is yet to be finalized. Huawei is said to assembled the Nexus 7 2016 tablet while HTC is thought to manufacture the smartphones for the next three years. But only recently, LG was the whispers that indicate it remains a possible next Nexus maker while Sony's Xperia flagship emerges as another candidate.
However, Google as expected appears unwilling to divulge anything on its Nexus 2016 blueprint for now so the things mentioned above still reside in the rumor zone.
