If the screens of smartphones just keep getting bigger for a better viewing experience, why not do the same with film screens?
Multi-awarded Star Screen manufactured an “extra-large” movie screen measuring 100m by 25m and weighing 1.6 tonne--probably the world’s largest, according to Xinhua.
In the two years spent creating the screen, Star Screen encountered several challenges, including those concerning “screen evenness, spraying and transportation.”
The Anhui-based firm already received eight orders from theme park and theater owners.
Lin Minjie, general manager of Beijing-based China Film Equipment Company, said that the past five years have welcomed the opening of more than 3,300 theaters in the country.
Anhui Star Screen, Wuhu Star Huge Screen and Wuhu Star Video Equipment comprise the Anhui Star Screen Corporation, which holds office at Dangtu County’s Xinqiao Industrial District.
The company enumerated the following kinds of screens on its website: huge screen, silver screen (used for 3D film in cinema), dome screen, circular screen, portable screen and matte white screen (used for common film and digital movie).
Anhui Star Screen said that a huge screen measures more than 20m by 12m. The company accepts orders for 180-, 270- and 360-degree circular screens.
When Raman Hui’s blockbuster hit “Monster Hunt” premiered at the Beijing Olympic Sports Center on July 5, 2015, Anhui Star Screen provided the metal screen, according to the company website.
Wuhu Star Huge Screen created “the largest single silver movie screen” in the country when Wuxi PolyMax Cinema ordered for a silver screen measuring 31.6m by 16.3m. It was installed in May 2015.
The Wuxi Poly International Movie Theater, occupying a 10,000sqm space in Binhu District in Jiangsu Province, houses 10 screening rooms. Its IMAX theater can accommodate up to 520 people.
For those with a fat bank account, they can have an IMAX-powered home theaters for $200,000, reported The Diplomat.
