Shakira and boyfriend Gerard Pique have welcomed the new addition to their family, their second son Sasha.
The "Hips Don't Lie" singer gave birth to a second son, Sasha Pique Mebarak, on Jan. 29, Thursday, before 10 p.m. Barcelona time, as announced a day after on the singer's official website.
Sasha and singer and dancer mom are both in excellent health condition, the hospital confirmed. Baby number two arrived via a scheduled C-section at Quiron-Tekron de Barcelona hospital.
"We named him Sasha. The name is from a Russian and Greek descent, which means 'warrior' and 'defender of mankind'," the couple explained.
Milan, Sasha's big brother, has a similar meaningful name. When he was born in January 2013, the parents explained that their first-born's name means, "gracious", "loving", and "dear" in Slavic; "laborious" and "eager" in Ancient Roman language; and "unification" in Sanskrit.
While two-time "The Voice" coach Shakira is Colombian, his long-time boyfriend Pique, who plays soccer for both Spain's national team and FC Barcelona, is Spanish by blood. The family lives in Barcelona because of Pique's career, the singer reasoned out.
The 37-year-old Colombian beauty announced that she was pregnant with baby number two in late August 2014 via the Los Angeles Times.
"I would love, and planning, to have eight kids or nine with Gerard," the singer told the Latina magazine. "Isn't it nice to have your own football team?"
Pique and Shakira, who started dating in 2010, met on the set of the filming of "Waka Waka," the theme song of FIFA World Cup 2010.
