Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain will meet tough English Premier League giants Manchester City FC in the quarterfinals of the 2015-2016 UEFA Champions League with the first leg of their matchup set at the Parc des Princes in Paris on April 6th, Wednesday.
Les Parisiens trounced the struggling Premier League champions Chelsea FC, 4-2 on aggregate, during their Round-of-16 encounter. PSG won the first leg on Feb 16th in Paris, 2-1, with superstar strikers Zlatan Ibrahimović and Edinson Cavani netting one goal apiece.
The second leg was concluded in a similar tally, 2-1, this time at the Stamford Bridge in London on March 9th, as reported by SkySports.
Midfielder Adrien Rabiot opened the scoring for the Red and Blue at the 16th minute before the Blues' Spanish striker Diego Costa equalized the match at the 27th.
The score held on until the halftime break before Ibrahimović scored his second goal of the series seven minutes after the hour mark with a rebound play via an Angel Di Maria miss from close range, which proved to be the winner for manager Laurent Blanc's side.
Meanwhile, Manchester City held on to a 0-0 draw with reigning Ukrainian Premier League champions FC Dynamo Kyiv in the second leg of their Round-of-16 contest at the Etihad Stadium on March 15th, as per BBC Sport.
City preserved their dominating 3-1 victory in the first leg of their head-to-head at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev on Feb 24th to win their series via a 3-1 aggregate.
Despite what seemed to be a lackluster effort right at their own home field, it was a historic game for Manuel Pellegrini 's boys as it was the first time in the history of the Citizens that the club advanced in the final eight of Europe's premier club competitions.
However, City experienced a crucial setback in the game, particularly their defensive line, as team captain Vincent Kompany and top defender Nicolas Otamendi both went out of the match with separate injuries. The two defenders are not expected to appear in their first leg match with PSG in the quarters.
The predicted result is a tough 1-0 decision for Paris Saint-Germain over an undermanned Manchester City.
