Verizon was sued for false advertising claims on their Wi-Fi services by Cablevision Systems Corp. in New York City. Cablevision accused Verizon of falsely advertising that they are the "fastest Wi-Fi available" in NYC which is a clear attempt to undercut their competitive lead.
The complaint was filed on Jan. 29 at the Manhattan Federal court, stating that Verizon allegedly released an ad campaign with the false claim of superior Wi-Fi services, according to Wall Street Journal.
The accusation was about a brand new router that Verizon is currently installing, while Cablevision already has it running in the same area mentioned. The said new router is available for installation at the rate of $199.99 per unit.
Bethpage, the New York-based Cablevision, stated that Verizon's claim of having the fastest Wi-Fi in the city of New York is deceptive, false, and is meant to mislead the consuming public, Reuters reported.
"Verizon's claim that it has faster WiFi than Cablevision is false, deceptive and designed to mislead consumers. Indeed, Cablevision not only has offered this router to its customers for nearly a year, but it does so for free, whereas Verizon charges customers as much as $199.99 for its new router," according to the complaint statement.
Deidre Hart, Verizon Spokeswoman replied with an explanation that this is a boldface scheme to promote Cablevision's latest wireless structure. Their company is yet to see the filed complaint.
In the 2011 complaint filed by Cablevision against Verizon, whereas the company sued Verizon for misleading its users regarding Cablevision's internet speed. The filed case was then settled between both parties.
Verizon has rejected Cablevision's indictment.
