AnTuTu, the Chinese software benchmarking tool, has just released the list of top 10 smartphones based on their performance during the first quarter of 2016. Surprisingly enough, neither a Samsung Galaxy smartphone nor Apple's iPhone has been able to secure the top rank in the list.
Contrary to the expectations of the Galaxy and iPhone fans, AnTuTu found the performance of Xiaomi Mi 5 to be the most powerful among all smartphones launched during the first quarter of the current year. The Chinese-made handset scored 136,875 points for its "excellent" performance, while the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge came a close second scoring 134,599 and Apple's iPhone 6s/6s Plus was ranked third with 133,781 points.
According to the top 10 list published by AnTuTu, other smartphones that succeeded in finding a place among the top five devices include the Huawei Mate 8 and Meizu Pro 5, scoring 91,157 and 86,322, respectively, Tech Times reported.
The list ranked the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, LETV Max, iPhone 6, Vivo Xplay5 (standard edition) and the Samsung Galaxy S6 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th, respectively.
In 2015, AnTuTu included the iPhone for the first time in its top 10 best performance smartphone ranking in the form of a cross-platform ranking, the Chinese benchmark site noted. According to the site, iPhone 6S Plus, which was released just then and, hence, was in a complete advantageous position. Nevertheless, with the launch of the coming of Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 devices, there were major changes in the AnTuTu performance ranking during the first quarter of 2016. It was found that the performance of a number of Android flagship devices was superior compared to the iPhone.
While considering the performance ranking of the various smartphones during 2016 Q1, AnTuTu took the following statistics into consideration:
- Statistical source version: AnTuTu Benchmark V6.0
- Statistics Method: Taking the standard score of one device model and, one chip model
- No less than 500 data sample for the score of one device
- Statistic time: Jan. 1, 2016 to March 31, 2016
Incidentally, aside from demonstrating the remarkable growth of Chinese original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), the 2016 Q1 top 10 smartphones list released by AnTuTu emphasizes that the performance of many Android smartphones was boosted following the release of the Qualcomm's potent chipset, Snapdragon 820.
While the iPhone 6s was in an absolute advantage position soon after its launch in 2015, Android flagship devices outperformed the Apple smartphone following the launch of Snapdragon 820. While it is expected that the A10 processor will pack some additional power to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, until then, Android is apparently in command.
