Tesla is recalling Model X SUVs after discovering a flaw in the third-row seats of the production vehicles. The automaker is voluntarily recalling all 2,700 affected vehicles for customers' safety while pressure is on for Tesla Model 3 deliveries.
Tesla Model 3 has been making the headlines since the preorders started in the beginning of April. As the reservations crossed Tesla's expectations, the automaker is facing greater risk in the light of Model X recalls. Fortunately, only 2700 SUVs—the total shipped till date—have been issued a recall, but considering the huge demand of Model 3, the company cannot leave any room for mistakes.
An email has been sent to Model X owners, explaining the reason for the recall. The seats in the third row of the SUVs are carrying faulty hinges which could break off and hurl the seats forward in case of an accident. After the recall, these seats will be replaced and the vehicles will be delivered to their respect owners, BGR reported.
Reportedly there had been no accidents till date nor the fault was not visible during the factory tests, but the car maker wants to tackle the issue as soon as possible. Additionally, the supplier responsible for the faulty part will reportedly handle all expenses involved in getting the hinge replaced.
The effect of Model X seat fault is not detrimental; first off, because only small numbers of vehicles had been shipped; secondly, the supplier of the faulty parts will reportedly pay for all the expenses involved in the seat replacements. In this particular case, Tesla's slow production became advantageous, but with over 276,000 preorders, bringing Tesla Model 3 flawlessly to the road is going to be a daunting challenge.
In Model 3 scenario, Tesla must both boost the production rate and ensure the integrity of all the all-electric vehicles because even a small margin of error could result in too many vehicles to recall to be afforded by the company. The delivery dates, expected to happen in late 2018 and early 2019, is also not adding to any luxury to Tesla's relief. Currently, Model 3 is waiting for more trademarks, Electrek reported.
Successfully putting handing over Tesla Model 3 to the owners is clearly leading the priority list and any deterioration in the plan would be a disaster. The following video highlights more aspects of Model X recalls.
