By the end of "Ant-Man," Anthony Mackie's "The Falcon" has been looking forward to find Scott Lang who robbed the "Avengers" facility during the course of the film. By the end of the film, it was teased that "Ant-Man" may no longer be the only one to use a shrinking technology for heroic adventures when "The Wasp" enters the superhero fold. True enough, a few months later, Marvel announced that "The Wasp" will be included in the second installment of "Ant-Man."
Fortunately for fans, they did not have to wait much longer to see Paul Rudd playing the thief-turned-hero on the big screens with his role in "Captain America: Civil War." Initially, Marvel thought to include "The Wasp" in the equation but decided against it.
Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Marcus McFeely removed "The Wasp" from "Civil War's" script for various reasons, Screen Rant reported.
"There was a period where we talked about bringing Wasp in. There was actually a draft Wasp was in because she was so almost on the edge of being in Ant-Man, but then you're taking something awesome out of the Ant-Man team's quiver if it's like, 'Well, we're doing her!' Plus she had a similar skill set, so it's like 'Well, maybe we just isolate it to Scott,'" Markus told Collider.
McFeely added that the decision to delay her debut was due to the fact that they felt "Civil War" it will change "Ant-Man's" dynamic as the comic relief in "Civil War." So instead of having "Ant-Man and The Wasp," the audience will have to settle for "Ant-Man" as Tony Stark and Captain Steve Rogers approach their monumental face-off.
In the "Civil War" comic books, "The Wasp" portrayed by Hope Van Dyne's mother, Janet Van Dyne was on team Iron Man while in the upcoming film, Scott Lang a.k.a "Ant-Man" is on the opposite side.
"Captain America: Civil War" opens on May 6, 2016 while "Ant-Man and The Wasp" is scheduled for July 2018 release.
