Actor-director Wu Jing's action flick "Wolf Warriors" would make its debut in China on March 6 amid the heightened audience preference for "tough guy-styled" films.
Also playing the lead role in the film, the kung-fu-star-turned-filmmaker announced the scheduled release date for "Wolf Warriors" during a press conference held on Jan. 27, Tuesday.
During the press conference, Wu expressed his high hopes to show a bolder, more "macho" side of Chinese soldiers to the country's movie-going population.
Wu stars as Leng Feng, a Chinese special forces soldier, together with English actor and martial artist Scott Adkins, who was made popular for his roles in the Hollywood films "Undisputed II: Last Man Standing" and "Undisputed III: Redemption."
To match his co-star's league, Wu had even undergone one-and-a-half year of military combat training.
The Chinese-born actor-director, also known as Jackie Wu, was discovered by martial arts choreographer Yuen Woo-ping in 1995 and played the lead character "Hawkman" or "Jackie" in the 1996 flick "Tai Chi Boxer."
In 2003, he worked with choreographer and director Lau Kar-leung to create the film "Drunken Monkey" and later gained popularity in the Hong Kong entertainment sect in 2005 after he was featured in "SPL: Sha Po Lang."
Since then, his career in the film industry boomed where he starred in the Hong Kong movie "Fatal Contact" as Kong Ko and played the lead role in the 2007 flick "Twins Mission."
Aside from being an accomplished actor, Wu also became a volunteer for the "One Foundation" in May 2008, where he aided those affected by the Sichuan earthquake through delivering relief work.
