A high-profile match between two 2015-2016 La Liga season contending teams, Athletic Bilbao (16-11-6, 54 points) and Atletico Madrid (24-5-4, 76 points), is on as the two teams face each other at the former's home field of San Mamés Stadium on April 20th, Wednesday.
Athletic Bilbao is currently on a two-game winning run as they drift at the fifth spot of the league table, six points behind fourth-running Villarreal CF and the final UEFA Champions League qualifying berth for next season. Sixth-placed team Celta Vigo is only a point below and so the team needs to keep on winning in the last five matchdays of their current campaign to at least keep a Europa League spot.
In their most recent fixture last Sunday, Los Leones nipped middling club Malaga CF at the La Rosaleda Stadium for their second straight victory, via ESPN.
Midfielder Raul Garcia provided the lone goal of the contest for manager Ernesto Valverde's side at the 53rd minute to successfully register their fourth win in six matches. The win also helped them overtake Celta Vigo in the overall standings after Os Célticos drew with Real Betis during their game in the same matchday.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid continued their ascent in the overall standings as they are now tied on points with reeling league leaders FC Barcelona but have a lesser goal differential to settle for second place as of the moment.
Los Colchoneros crushed lowly squad Granada CF, 3-0, at the Vicente Calderon Stadium also last Sunday for their third straight win, as per BBC Sport.
Midfielder Koke scored the first goal of the match at the 15th minute before it was followed up by a second one from striker Fernando Torres one minute before the hour mark.
Argentine striker Angel Correa sealed the win at the 83rd as manager Diego Simeone's boys successfully leveled with Barça in the league table to seriously challenge them for the domestic top flight title this season.
The predicted result is another 3-0 win for Atletico Madrid.
