Android KitKat is becoming the most used version of Google's OS which is currently running on 40 percent of Android devices. It has been 15 months since Android KitKat first made its launch on Android smart phones and yet it keeps getting more and more power over other operating systems. The basis of such outcome is the number of visits and downloads each android smart phone makes on Google Play Store, ZDNet reported.
According to statistics for Google Android maker page as of Jan. 5, the Android KitKat OS has reached a 39.1 percent of all Android devices that touch the Google servers. KitKat OS has made a big jump from December to 5.2 percent compared from its 33.9 percent Android distribution charts.
The growth of the KitKat OS is directly connected to that of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which fell a 2.1 user percentage as of December, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich fell 1.1 percent, and 2.3 Gingerbread at 1.3 percent less. Adding up all of the losses from each of these OS will result to the gain of KitKat in the previous month. December 2014 was second in the row month where 4.1 Jelly Bean got the largest drop in Android distribution, according to ARC.
The immense increase of Android KitKat was about the holiday gift giving on the Christmas season, which is the busiest time of the year for device activations. Old gadgets were replaced with upgraded models with KitKat OS in them.
At the present date, Android 2.3 Gingerbread is ready to be buried soon. The Android 5 Lollipop has started to be felt at 1.6 percent distribution on latest smart phones and tablets.
