A team up between Hong Kong superstar Stephen Chow and Vietnam's Tsui Hark is in the works in an upcoming sequel to the former's multi-million-dollar 2013 Chinese flick "Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons."
The two biggest stars in the Chinese entertainment industry would soon be seen together in Alibaba Pictures' latest assault on the movie industry, reports revealed on Monday.
According to China Entertainment News, Chow and Hark would soon be working hand-in-hand to make "Journey to the West 2" a success where the Hong Kong-based entertainer would act as the flick's producer while the Vietnam-born artist would be its director.
Filming of the highly-anticipated follow-up to the US$215 million-worth 2013 comedic fantasy movie co-written, produced, and directed by Stephen Chow is expected to begin by August this year and is expected to be completed just in time for the 2017 Lunar New Year.
Though sources confirmed that there had been talks about the upcoming collaboration, they also clarified that nothing has been set and sealed yet, a report from The Hollywood Reporter (THR) stated.
The upcoming sequel, according to THR, is another attempt at boosting Alibaba Pictures' performance in the film industry after a disappointing performance during the first half of the year 2014.
Noting what an interesting collaboration it would be, THR explained that the two filmmakers have diverse styles when it comes to helming film.
Despite this, their partnership would be an interesting mix to the entertainment unit because both of them can be considered big names in the industry.
Meanwhile, would reportedly be investing in the science fiction "Mermaid," another film produced by Chow.
