The recently leaked Huawei 7P trademark was a key giveaway that Google is currently working on a compact tablet to be called Nexus 7 2016 that likely will see a release date around summertime or as early as June this year. There are compelling indicators that point to the imminent rollout of a compact Pure Android tablet, a new report said.
While Google remains silent on the matter, as expected, the "circumstantial evidence for (a new Nexus 7 tablet) is tantalizing," Android Central said in a report.
As mentioned, the Huawei 7P label that was discovered in the past weeks directs to a lot of things. One is that a device with same name will soon be produced by the giant smartphone maker from China and the consensus so far is it has something to do with the relatively successful Nexus 6P, issued in late 2015. But for 2016, it will be a 7-inch tablet that likely is the scaled-up version of the 6P.
That would mean premium build and design plus high-end specifications, which align with the earlier reports that in releasing a third Nexus 7 tablet Google is not only gunning to challenge Apple's iPad Mini but also to give the perceived industry leader one hell of a fight.
Android Central said that Huawei putting together a Nexus 7 tablet for Google is not far off, noting that the fast-emerging Chinese device maker is honored collaborating with the Nexus maker. "It has always been a dream for Huawei to work with Google," the report quoted a senior Huawei executive as saying.
And the partnership that started with the Nexus 6P benefits both Google and Huawei. For the former, its vision of what a Nexus device should be is mostly realized and the 6P is the solid proof. For the latter, "collaborating on a Nexus product is one way for Huawei to achieve a longstanding goal - to grow its brand awareness and establish itself as a tier-one device maker in Western markets," Android Central said.
Also, Huawei producing a new Nexus 7 to the strict specifications by Google and fast is not impossible at all. There is no denying that Huawei is capable of such a feat and as recalled by the report, the first Nexus 7 was conceptualized and deployed by Google and Asus in just four months. Surely, Huawei can replicate or even better that model.
So it should be a safe guess that work on the Nexus 7 2016 is already underway with Huawei locked on for the job. Release date is likely no later than summer or June at the earliest, possibly weeks after the Google I/O 2016 in May, Android Central said, adding that a China-only version of the third Nexus 7 tab could see release afterwards, pretty much explaining the Huawei 7P trademark that surfaced.
