"Grey's Anatomy's" Ellen Pompeo has talked of Patrick Dempsey's departure from the show as one that has had no impact on the show's performance, through an analogy that compared him to a penis.
This happened during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres on the "Ellen DeGeneres" show, which aired on April 25. The 46-year-old actress responded with the queer phrase "it is amazing how much you get done without a penis," to DeGeneres' view that "Grey's anatomy" was doing very well yet, everybody thought that Dempsey's boot from episode 11 would have a negative impact on the show.
Apparently, Dempsey, Pompeo's onscreen husband, was killed off the series on the 11th episode because he was not getting along with the creator of "Grey's Anatomy" Shonda Rhimes during the off-screen performance. Dempsey is, however, not the first actor of "Grey's Anatomy" to get cut out due to personal issues with Rhimes.
Both Isiah Washington and Katherine Heigl got a similar boot over different reasons. In an interview with US weekly, Pompeo assured fans that the show would go on to the next season and the change brought about by Dempsey's sudden exit is part of the reasons why it does not end at Season 12.
Meanwhile, fans of "Grey's Anatomy" are in for a twist because Pompeo's character, Meredith, will not be hooking up with Alex (Justin Chambers) in Season 12 of the show. The actress told TV line that her character does not see Alex in a romantic way, although they both have a kind of affection for each other because Meredith is not up for a love affair.
However, if Rhimes decides that Meredith should finally move on and start seeing Alex, she will be okay with the role since she trusts the producer's influence on the show. She also affirmed that her decision to quit acting after "Grey's Anatomy" still stands.
Pompeo strongly feels that there has been a certain stigma on actresses as producers think they cannot transition to doing great with movies. She also feels that the future of "Grey's Anatomy" is not on the verge of its end yet, although she hopes that together with Rhimes, they will work this out as a team.
