Elizabeth Banks was spotted during the filming of "Power Rangers." The film is slated for a reboot with the "Pitch Perfect" actress locked on the villain role. Banks will play the iconic Rita Repulsa in the upcoming film.
The photos of a menacing version of the character was released to People. Fans had mixed reactions to the costume.
Banks was seen wearing the green body-hugging costume with Rita Repulsa’s iconic staff in tow. The actress was spotted while filming a scene in Vancouver, Canada, Vancity Buzz reported.
In the tv version, the character seldom comes to earth to fight the “Power Rangers." Usually, Rita sends minions and monsters from her palace in the moon to do her bidding.
Throughout the years, the character has gone several transformation. The original version of the character is an evil humanoid alien witch who is fixated on galactic domination. She is a powerful sorceress who has conquered many worlds until she was defeated by Zordon in her failed attempt to dominate Earth.
Japanese actress Machiko Soga originally played Rita dubbed in English by Barbara Goodson. Soga reprised the role in a good-natured reincarnation of the character in “Power Rangers Mystic Force” in 2006 with Susan Brady as the voice actress.
In “Mystic Force” the character was depicted as the ruler of all good magic who gave the “Power Rangers” their mystical powers that links them to the morphing Grid.
Banks will join Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), Becky G. (Yellow Ranger), RJ Culer (Blue Ranger), Jason Lee Scott (Red Ranger) and Chinese actor Ludi Lin (Black Ranger).
