Contending squads Southampton FC (15-11-9, 54 points) and Manchester City FC (19-9-7, 64 points) are scheduled to face one another in a 2015-2016 Premier League season match at the St. Mary's Stadium on May 1st, Sunday as the English top flight season is on its last few matchdays.
Southampton is at the eighth spot of the current league table, only two points behind the final Europa League qualifying berth temporarily held by West Ham United, with only three games left in their current campaign. There is still a chance to snag a slot in the said tournament if they can string enough wins late this season.
The Saints won a high-scoring matchup against cellar dwellers Aston Villa, 4-2, at the Villa Park last Saturday, as per SkySports.
Irish forward Shane Long netted the opening goal at the 15th minute for manager Ronald Koeman's side while midfielder Dusan Tadic doubled the lead at the 39th. The Villans managed to score one during the first half injury time, courtesy of midfielder Ashley Westwood, to trim the gap to 2-1 before the restart.
Tadic then scored his second goal of the afternoon at the 71st to make it 3-1 for Southampton, but Westwood also netted another one at the 85th to trim the lead again. Winger Sadio Mane sealed the win in stoppage time to give his side its third consecutive unbeaten performance.
Meanwhile, City overtook Arsenal for third place in the overall standings after a 4-0 demolition of Stoke City at the Etihad Stadium last Saturday, via BBC Sport.
Midfielder Fernando opened the scoring at the 35th followed by Sergio Agüero with a penalty kick two minutes before halftime.
Manuel Pellegrini's boys added two more in the second half, courtesy of a brace from forward Kelechi Iheanacho at the 64th and 74th minutes to complete the team's four-goal haul.
The win was the fifth straight undefeated game of the Citizens.
The predicted result is a 3-0 rout for Manchester City.
