Rumors abound that in "Winds of Winter" Stannis Baratheon may win the battle of Winterfell. Despite the win, his dream of ruling on the Iron Throne will not come true.
The television adaptation and the much-loved book series are not totally in sync. In "Game of Thrones" Season 5, Baratheon was shown to be killed by Brienne of Tarth, to avenge the death of her master. However, Baratheon is still alive in the book series and may also have an influential role in the much-anticipated "Winds of Winter."
In an interview with IGN, author George R. R. Martin said that he has conceptualized a wicked twist for the book. The twist involves a character, who is shown to be dead on the TV show, but is still alive in the book. Hence, it is speculated that this character is none other than Baratheon.
Numerous reports also indicate that in the book, the mighty White Walkers will defeat him and eventually kill him. So, he will not be able to realize his dream of ruling the seven kingdoms on the Iron Throne.
Meanwhile, there are also rumors that the much-delayed book is finally complete and is currently at the publishing stage. Martin is expected to release it in May.
Earlier, Martin was criticized a lot for not adhering to the timelines and delaying the launch of the book. In his defense, he wrote in his journal Not a Blog, that it deeply saddened him to see that that the book was not released before the premiere of "Game of Thrones" Season 6.
On the other hand, it is also rumored that Martin may have taken the aid of a co-author to finish the book. Neil Gainman, the celebrated author of "Stardust," "American Gods," "The Graveyard Book," and "Coraliane" is expected to be Martin's co-author.
In addition, the book may also focus heavily on Jon Snow's parents and Sansa Stark. Ramsay Bolton dealt her a heavy blow, when he raped her violently. She may be pregnant with his child, who may later turn out to be an influential character.
