Rick Osterloh is returning to the Silicon Valley to take his rightful place among the Google's lead persons. Motorola's former president is teaming up with the search giant to take care of its hardware assets in a new hardware division.
The former Motorola chief is confirmedly resuming at Google as Senior Vice President,Re/Code learned. He will be working under CEO Sundar Pichai and run the hardware division which will chauffeur Google's physical products like Google Nexus, Chromecast, OnHub, ATAP, Glass, Chromebook, Pixel C and other consumer products.
These hardware items had always seemed out of place, but with the newfound hardware unit will give them an abode they truly belong. This boost in Google's effort was partially driven by the abandonment of its ATAP core by its former chief, Regina Dugan, who dumped the project to join Facebook.
However, Google did not let go of its efforts to encourage the development of more physical products. It not only started vamping its investment on ATAP but also created a "living room" to speak for Google's interests in its marketing its hardware repository. This living room can be thought as a product suite that unifies Google's different hardware groups into a single division.
The tech giant chose Osterloh to be the person in charge because he has previously worked under Google's flagship as CEO of Motorola. He will be responsible for overseeing the aforementioned product lines, which were previously scattered across Google and Alphabet territories.
Google Glass was fast to come out, but it has failed to meet people's expectations. The fact that Google has also divided its efforts as the company made a major investment in Magic Leap, Applause reported. But instead of killing the project, the company changed its name to Project Aura.
As to the performance of Google's hardware products, some are doing ostensibly well. Chromecast has become number one TV streaming stick in the market and Chromebook sales have surpassed that of Apple laptops. Additionally, the new Huawei-built Nexus phones had a great response from the buyers.
