The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society announced that Oscar-winning director Ruby Yang, together with director Yim Ho and "Red Cliff" producer Terence Yang, will spearhead the 2015 Hong Kong-Asia Film Forum.
Yim Ho brings a big budget epic "Nanking Xmas 1937," which will be produced by Ng See-yuen. Zhou Quan, along with producer Terence Chang and Jacqueline Liu, will bring "That Summer." Academy Award-winning producer Ruby Yang (known for "The Blood of Yingzhou District") will co-produce with Alfred Sung Stephen Gurie Woo's "The Last Stitch."
The forum was established in 2012 with the aim of developing movies with local and regional appeal, providing support for the promising screenplays.
This year, the three finalists will receive cash prizes of HK$100,000 and a contract with Fox. The projects include Leo Sun's "My Last Wish," Zhou Hongbo's "Unexpected and Ambiguous," and Yu Sen-I's "My Beauty Queen."
The 30 projects chosen this year were coming from different countries, including Australia, China, the Philippines, Japan, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong.
Hong Kong International Film Festival director Jacob Wong admitted that they are excited with the quality of the submissions.
Wong further said: "The selection is very exciting and a great balance of newcomers and more established filmmakers from all over the region. We truly believe Asian cinema is flourishing."
