Actress Lindsay Lohan, best known for "Mean Girls," "The Parent Trap" and "Freaky Friday", filed a defamation lawsuit on Feb. 2, Monday, against Fox News commentators Sean Hannity and Michelle Fields.
The filed court papers cite a claim allegedly made by the Fox News hosts that Lohan and her mother, who is also named plaintiff, used cocaine togethe, according to Reuters.
The discussion was said to have taken place two days after the death of Academy Award -winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman of "Capote" died from a heroin overdose.
According to CBS News, the court papers filed by the Lohans claim that Fields made a "matter of fact" statement that Dina Lohan used cocaine with her daughter.
Among an unspecified amount in compensatory and punitive damages, the suit seeks that Fox News stop distributing the broadcast on its website. The suit further claims that the Fox News broadcast contained "defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress."
The Lohans' lawyer, Mark Heller, has stated that the defendants named in the lawsuit had yet to apologize or issue a retraction.
Meanwhile, Fox News had no comment about the suit, except to say that their "legal team has not reviewed" the case yet.
Lindsya Lohan, a former Disney child star, has made headlines in recent years for charges of alcoholism, drug abuse and repeated stints in rehab. Last week, a prosecutor raised questions as to whether she completed her community service sentence that was the result of a reckless driving incident.
