Scamming takes many forms in the soon-to-open Disneyland Shanghai. First, it was the ticket prices which were selling online for more than 10 times the original price.
Now, ahead of the June 16 opening and because of the Labor Day holiday, even the price of drinks is establishments near Disneyland Shanghai were selling several times its regular price. The South China Morning Post reported that a can of soda was selling five times its regular retail price.
Because few food stalls were already open, the open ones had a field day jacking up prices. Soda cans and ice tea were sold for 15 yuan, while the regular price is just 3 yuan, or a five-hold increase. Mineral water was also overpriced at 10 yuan per bottle.
Definitely, the law of supply and demand was working during the Labor weekend because few food stalls were still open. But demand was so high since by 1 p.m. on Saturday, 40,000 passengers arrived at the metro station near Disneyland Shanghai, while the train operator was expecting only 12,000 tourists over three days, reported Thepaper.cn.
However, tourists were complaining because of the inflated prices of drinks, although many dining establishments in tourist districts normally charge higher prices for refreshments compared to regular prices. They said the soda and mineral drink prices were still excessive.
Many hope it would go down when Disneyland Shanghai opens on June 16 and more food stalls open.
Among the establishments set to open also on June 16 is the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel which features a Mickey topiary at the garden outside the hotel, while the lobby boasts of a stained glass ceiling and large bronze statue of Mickey and friends, reported Insidethemagic.
There are more intricate Disney details in every corner of the hotel, plus a Tinker Bell gift shop and the Ballet Café and Bacchus Lounge which are inspired by “Fantasia.”
