The latest details for the possible season 2 of "Supergirl" will likely feature the appearance of Project Cadmus and Superboy, as well as the TV series transferring to the CW Network.
CBS CEO Les Moonves is in talks with Warner Bros. Television about the fate of the "Supergirl" TV series starring Melissa Benoist, which did not go so well on the ratings in its first season. CBS would like to have the show back for second season, however, a roughly $3 million per episode licensing fee that the network pays to broadcast "Supergirl" is a sticking point for them, considering the ratings drop throughout the year, TheWrap reported.
This culminated to a speculation that the only way "Supergirl" could remain for its season 2 production is that it might have to be transferred to the CW Network, joining the line-up of other DC TV series such as "Arrow", "The Flash" and "Legends of Tomorrow". In other to do so, Moonves and Warner Bros. TV chief Peter Roth will need to reach a deal before both the CBS and CW upfront presentations later this month.
The "Supergirl" TV series is being handled by showrunners Gregg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, who happens to manage the three DC TV series in the CW Network. It was not long ago that Barry Allen/The Flash (Grant Gustin) appeared in crossover episode of the show and "TMNT 2" star Stephen Amell expressed his desire to have Kara Danvers (Benoist) in future episodes of "Arrow" now that both shows have been renewed for another season.
In other news, several rumors are making rounds regarding the possible plot details for "Supergirl" season 2.
The showrunners teased that the possible season 2 plot of "Supergirl" will have Kara invesigate Project Cadmus as Kreisberg told IGN they will "save" the stories related to the organization. Project Cadmus was briefly mentioned in season 1 as they experimenting on different alien species and took Jeremiah Saunders (Dean Cain), the adopted father of Kara and biological father of Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) after he survived an attack from Hank Henshaw (David Harewood).
Several fans speculated that season 2 of "Supergirl" might feature Superman's clone Conner Kent/Superboy since Project Cadmus created him in the comics. Kreisberg explained that Project Camus will remain more of an "evil, specter-y thing", but it will definitely be something that they wil pursue and the organization has much rich history in the comics and the animated shows.
DC fans will just have to wait for CBS decision to have "Supergirl" return for a season 2.
