"The Little Match Girl" has finally been given the green light and is ready to be on the silver screen. It was reported previously that Sanami Suzuki's manga adaptation is a go with filmmaker Hiroshi Uchida and screenwriter Kitaji Ishikawa.
On May 2, Monday, the film's official website began streaming a 60-second and 30-second trailer for the upcoming "The Little Match Girl." The teaser offers a lens into the film's story plot and the stellar cast of Japanese actors.
The live-action film is the adaptation of the popular Japanese manga series of the same name, first published in the monthly seinen manga magazine called Young Ace (2014-2015). The original manga itself is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Match Girl" (1845), which tells the tale of a dying child's dream and hope.
The forthcoming live-action film follows the enigmatic girl named Rin, played by SKE48 Sumire Sato, who sells matches that can transform delusions into reality. The mysterious match offers the possibility of attaining the buyers' personal dreams, but as dangerous as fire, Anime News Network reported.
The three people with darkness in their hearts, whom Rin will interact with and help them somehow through her matches, have also been cast. It includes Yutaka Kobayashi as Isami Naito, Kensho Ono as Kanato Kishida, while Takafumi Honda is up to play the character of Osamu Ujiie.
Additional cast members include Karen Miyama as Kanoko Tanaka, Yuuka Ueno as Yoko Chono, Fuka Yuzuki as Yuka Takahashi, Ei Morisako as Harumi Tomono, Riku Ozeki, Goro Oishi, and Mitsuko Oka.
Apart from that, the website further revealed a new poster visual that features the physical resemblance of the film's main cast to the original character. It is said that Japanese singers, Kūsō Iinkai and Sayuri Murakami, will be providing the theme song for the movie.
With Hori Pro producing the film, the live-action adaptation is scheduled for release in 15 theaters across Japan on May 28 by StarCat. Check out the trailer and the visuals for the movie below:
