The latest news on recently retired NBA superstar Kobe Bryant was revealed by an unlikely source.
In his last game, Kobe was celebrated by the most of the NBA including his esteemed teammate Shaquille O'Neal with whom he won three championships with in the LA Lakers.
Unfortunately, the two superstars eventually feuded, cutting short what would have been a dominant dynasty. Kobe and Shaq became a cautionary tale for other teams that simply collecting superstars without regard for their personalities is a risky move (see James Harden and Dwight Howard in Houston).
The feud lasted for years so when Kobe and Shaq were had a podcast and were shown being friendly in Bryant's farewell game, most observers dismissed it as diplomacy from both players. That is probably not the case as Shaquille O' Neal's son Shareef, who is now a budding high school player, revealed that the two are now close again in this TMZ video.
The younger O'Neal revealed that Kobe has invited him to training: "He was telling me I need to train with him ... I'm going to probably start training with him this summer." Asked on whether he will try to "cross him over," his response: "If we play 1-on-1 ... Imma try to win."
Bleacher Report also shared details about the short but informative interview, the Shareef revealed that "there's no bad blood between his father and the Black Mamba, revealing that the two former Los Angeles Lakers teammates call and text each other." Another big reveal is that there is "the possibility of Bryant joining TNT's "Inside the NBA" which O'Neal stated is what the fans want.
It seems appropriate that Shareef would train with Kobe instead of his father as the Black Mamba is still in game shape while Shaq has gained massive weight since he retired (but he can still dunk). Also, Shareef is 6'8" and is ranked on 24/7 as a four-star power forward.
Kobe can help on his perimeter game and also some post moves not based on bowling over his opponents like Shaq. If he develops into a "stretch four" he could become the next NBA scion.
