Paul Francis Gadd, popularly known as Gary Glitter, has been found guilty of sexual abuse in a court proceeding at Southwarck Crown Court.
The 70-year-old singer denied all the allegations and maintained his innocence, yet, still failed to defend himself in court. The charges thrown at Gadd included an attempted rape, sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and several counts of indecent assault, to which all he pleaded not guilty.
The jury though was not convinced of his pleas. It is said that he claims that all his victims were fraud who's only after with his money but according to BBC, Peter Watt of the NSPCC described how Gadd can be so deceitful and even tried reeling the case the other way around. With a history of various cases of sexual assault to minors, these latest accusations of him will finally throw him to jail. It is said that he even attempted to convince the jury that he is the real casualty and not his supposed victims.
According to some reports, the victims of Gadd, although vindicated, may experience lifetime impact of his actions, unless more victims come out. The jury was not aware that Gadd has also served jail time in Vietnam, where he was convicted of sexual acts with minors, Telegraph reported.
It is said that this new relevant information could be used against him and even serve him longer jail time after his Southwark Crown Court conviction.
Mick Orchard of Operation Yewtree said that Gadd used his celebrity status to lure these children and do these horrendous sexual acts, ones they gain trust in him. His claim that he will not get justice because of the high profile case that has been open to the public was disregarded by Judge Alistair McCreath. Gadd is convicted of sexual assault but was cleared on charges against another two counts of assault.
