Simpsons fans got a search engine earlier this year that lets them browse for their favorite quote from the long-running TV series and the matching screencap. The website Frinkiac has just been improved by allowing users to also create gifs. The gif option that is getting beta tested lets users search by quote then select frames to capture an exact moment.
"The Simpsons" has become one of the most quoted TV shows ever. Frinkiac's new tool makes it possible to capture them in gif form.
Users just have to do a search for a character, catch-phrase, scene, or episode. Next, the gif generator shows film still matches that can be stitched together.
A gif can be up to four seconds long, or about 19 frames. Providing such limits can help to produce the best results in terms of creativity.
The search engine's users then just have to add the quote text to the top of the frame, according to Gizmodo. They can then share the gif on their favorite social networks.
Frinkiac's search engine stores more than 3 million screenshots of the TV series, according to Metro. This new tool allows users to create gifs, memes or other images from the Fox show.
The website was created by Paul Kehrer, Sean Schulte, and Allie Young. Schulte told Wired that the site's developers first had the idea of the website many years ago.
The three fans of "The Simpsons" would often quote the TV show featuring Bart, Lisa, Marge, and Homer. However, they had problems finding images of the Simpsons scenes they were quoting on Google.
Schulte explained most of the gif generator's code was written in about one week. It involved parsing the video files, uploading the frames to the server, and indexing them.
"The Simpsons" has run on the Fox Broadcasting Company for 27 seasons. It was created by Matt Groening who named the characters after his own family members. However, his character was renamed Bart.
The first shorts were first aired on "The Tracey Ullman Show" in April 1987. Since then "The Simpsons" has become the longest-running sitcom, animated program, and scripted primetime TV series in the United States. It has been officially renewed for Season 28
