ABC's "Nashville" was cancelled on Thursday, May 12 after Season 4 and now fans are wondering whether actress Connie Britton will return to "American Horror Story." The country music themed soap, "Nashville," is currently in the middle of its fourth season and the May 25 season finale will wrap up the series.

"Nashville" is so far averaging 1.8 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.7 million viewers overall in Nielsen's "live plus-7" approximates, according to Variety. The show consistently ranked third in the 10 p.m. hour, wasting a concrete lead-in from ABC's hit comedy lineup.

While it is unclear whether Britton will make a comeback to "American Horror Story," the actress who featured in "Nashville" since 2012 did have a considerable experience starring in "American Horror Story" Season 1. In fact, Britton received an Emmy nomination for her performance as the tormented Vivien Harmon.

Britton has indicated her desire to return to "American Horror Story" someday. She appeared at a Television Academy panel dedicated to women of the show last March.

When asked by an executive TV editor from the same publication as to whether she would return to the show, Britton did not hesitate to say, "Of course, I would." This elicited a roar of excitement from the audience.

Britton added that although she would love to come back to "American Horror Story," scheduling would present a challenge. In addition, the actress discussed what made her to take a role in "American Horror Story" Season 1.

"The thing that [co-creator Ryan Murphy] said to me was, 'You can take my word for it that you will not be doing anything that you've been doing for the last five years on this show,'" Britton said. She added that this appealed to her a lot.

It is not the first time that Britton has worked with Murphy. She played Faye Resnick in "American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson," where Murphy was an executive producer. So far, little is known about the upcoming sixth installment of "American Horror Story," including the concept. However, many regular cast members are set to return, including Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, and Angela Bassett.

"American Horror Story" Season 6 is slated to premiere on FX this fall. Watch the sneak peek below for further details.
