Despite a reduction in the overall industry sales, "Dark Souls III" managed to emerge as the best-selling game for April according to a list released by NPD.
Among of the three installments, this "Dark Souls" version is the fastest selling installment Bandai Namco has ever produced. Launched last March 23, "Dark Souls III" managed to reach its sales to 3 million. According to Metro, this number was composed of half-million sales in Asia, 1 million sales in Europe and 1.5 million sales in North America.
These figures also surpassed sales of its predecessor as claimed by NPD.
"Sales for Dark Souls III nearly doubled that of its predecessor, Dark Souls II, when adjusted for days in the market," said NPD Analyst Liam Callahan.
Among the top 10 list of NPD includes "Ratchet and Clank 2016" at the second spot, "MLB 16: The Show" at the third place, "Tom Clancy's The Division" and "Grand Theft Auto V" coming in at fourth and fifth place. Trailing off the list are "Minecraft," "Quantum Break," "Call of Duty: Black Ops," "NBA 2k16," and "Star for Fox Zero."
Despite its performance last month, rumors that "Dark Souls III" becoming the last of the series has also been brought up in the picture. From Software, developer of the said game, confirmed they will still be producing games similar to the theme of "Dark Souls III."
In a statement made by series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki he confirmed that "Dark Souls III" would be the conclusion of the series.
"I don't think it'd be the right choice to continue indefinitely creating Souls and Bloodborne games. I'm considering Dark Souls 3 to be the big closure on the series."
He also said he just believes its better they keep producing other new games so that players can keep enjoying. He even confirmed that before he became President, a new game idea was already conceived and this will be developed by From Software.
"There will be new types of games coming from us, and Dark Souls 3 is an important marker in the evolution of From Software."
