It has been almost three years since the horror-survival first-shooter game, "Outlast," became available for purchase. Since its release, the independent game has since garnered impressive ratings from both critics and casual gamers. Currently, "Outlast," which was developed and published by Red Barrels, holds an impressive 80 percent on both Game Rankings and Metacritic. It has also won a number of awards for the 2013 E3, including the game that Most Likely to Make you Faint recognition.
Because of the game's impressive reviews, avid followers of the title are already getting antsy for more details regarding "Outlast 2." Fortunately for them, information surrounding the highly sought-after sequel has already made its way online.
Two years ago, during the "Outlast 2's" early development phase, Cinema Blend got the chance to speak with Red Barrels co-founder Philippe Morin, regarding their intention for the "Outlast" sequel. During the interview, Morin revealed that their team of 12 is still in the midst of developing the tone and storyline of "Outlast 2." However, he assured ardent followers of the franchise that the second "Outlast" offering would be loyal to the original.
"We really want to keep on improving our craft, but ultimately we'll approach things the same way we did with the first game, which was to make a game we're scared to play ourselves and trust our instinct," explained by Morin.
Since Morin's interview, Red Barrels developers have been toiling towards creating the game. Currently, some tech insiders have gotten their hands on "Outlast's" sequel. Thankfully for gamers, these insiders have released reviews of the "Outlast 2" that they got to experience.
Dave Tach from Polygon is one the lucky few people who have already gotten the chance to play "Outlast 2" during the recent PAX East 2016. According to Tach, the game follows Blake Langerman and his wife, Lynn, as they uncover the details of the mysterious death of a pregnant woman. The game begins with both Blake and Lynn on a helicopter which crashes in the Arizona desert.
Tach explains that in the debris of the crash, the game is all about finding Lynn, uncovering the secrets of the desert and ultimately staying alive.
Red Barrels has yet to confirm the release date of "Outlast 2." However, it is said that the game is expected to be released by fall of this year.
