People who recently bought a Target infant bicycle helmet should make sure that it does not belong to the batch of 129,000 products recently recalled by the company. The helmets have been recalled over infant choking concerns.
Target and Pacific Cycle announced the recall of bicycle helmets with magnetic no-pinch buckle sold at Target stores and it's website. The company decided to recall the helmets after receiving reports that the magnet and a small piece of plastic can become loose.
In a recall notice, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission explained that the chin strap on the helmet contains a magnet and small plastic covers that can become loose. This puts children at an increased risk of choking and magnet ingestion.
The website also provides additional recall details, including detailed description of the products recalled. The products recalled come in different colors and design patterns and are meant for infants aged between one and three.
The recalled helmets have "SCHWINN" written in front of them. So far, Pacific Cycle has received no reports of injuries, but there have been three reported incidents of plastic cover coming loose.
Affected consumers have been requested to keep the helmets away from their infants and get in touch with Pacific Cycle for further details. In addition, they can get in touch with the company to replace their defected product with a free replacement helmet.
The recall notice on SCHWINN's official website states that considering the three reported cases of plastic cover and magnet coming loose, the company decided to approach CPSC.
"Safety is always our number one priority, and in an abundance of caution, Schwinn approached the CPSC to conduct a voluntary recall of the product," the company wrote. "We are committed to the safety of our helmets and to the Schwinn Quality standard, using over 120 years of cycling heritage, passion and expertise to guide us."
