Google is now betting big on artificial intelligence to power some of its products such as the new Allo messaging app that can provide intelligent suggestions for the user.
The search engine giant has been widely successful in their software ventures. Android was one of their larger successes and now the company is turning to AI as a move to expand the horizon of their products.
During Google's I/O developer conference in Silicon Valley, the company showcased the new Allo messaging app with the new Google Assistant that boasts their AI tech. Google Home was also demonstrated as it was also powered by the AI assistant.
The new messaging app will allow for intelligent suggestions based on what can be seen in the conversation window. For instance, Allo could suggest the nearest fashion boutique if the conversation is about the newest trends in fashion or a photo of a top was sent.
Google Assistant also allows users to quickly reply with an intelligent message on a smartwatch without typing, The Verge reported. The replies are based on the context of what is texted to them and not the traditional recyclable "I'm in a meeting" kind of replies most phones already have today.
The AI assistant currently does not have a voice like Siri, Alexa or Cortana. However, it can do so much more.
Google's AI tech can power smart homes with IoT products through their Google Home product. The hub would be able to control smart light bulbs, doors, locks and more.
It is not known yet whether the new device would be able to support all IoT products regardless of their platform or operating system. Google Home can also work with other Google products such as Gmail and Calendar, NDTV reported.
Users can still use the "OK, Google" phrase to call out the AI assistant for a command. They can ask the Google Assistant to turn off the lights or to even schedule a reservation for a restaurant.
With all the amazing feats the new AI tech could do, Google will still need a bit of time to properly develop and tweak their assistant. The search engine giant is aiming computers and other connected devices to be more accessible for every one.
