"The Walking Dead" season 7 will eventually see the demise of Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes.
During a recent Reddit AMA session to promote his upcoming new series in Cinemax, show co-creator Robert Kirkman said that Rick will eventually be killed off.
However, he clarified that this will happen in the near future so Rick wasn't the one who was murdered by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in the finale episode for season 6.
One fan asked Kirkman if he already has any idea how he wants "The Walking Dead" to end in the future. The exec said that he does have some ideas floating around, but he hopes that the hit AMC series would continue on for a very long time.
Meanwhile, Kirkman also appeared in on "WTF Podcast" last year to say that "The Walking Dead" wouldn't end with a tragedy.
"People talk about how 'The Walking Dead' is bleak, and if you take a certain cross-section of the story, then yeah, horrible. People have their loved ones eaten and they have a horrible time. But I see the story from beginning to end, over many, many years about humanity overcoming this insurmountable apocalyptic situation," he explained.
When asked when he thinks the series would end, Kirkman joked that he hopes it will end in season 16. He added that by then, he would already be retired and enjoying his life on a boat.
In other news, even though Kirkman didn't divulge how he wants the series to end, co-executive producer David Alpert previously said that they've already planned their storylines until season 12.
"I happen to be working from source material, specifically because we have a pretty good idea of what season 10 is gonna be. We know where season 11 and 12... We have benchmarks and milestones for those seasons if we're lucky enough to get there," he told IndieWire.
"The Walking Dead" season 7 will return to AMC on October 9. The series will then reveal who exactly did Negan kill off in the previous season.
The series also stars Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Steven Yeun and more.
