PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U are all powered by AMD hardware. Meanwhile, Nvidia was involved with PS3 and the first stages of Nintendo's 3DS. The chipmaker does not have a great track record with gaming consoles but Nintendo is reportedly teaming up with Nvidia for its NX console.
Nintendo insider Emily Rogers has verified that Nvidia will be involved in the NX, according to GamingBolt. She did not provide any other details.
It is thus unclear how Nvidia would team up with the Japanese electronics company on the new gaming system. In fact, the latest reports revealed NX as a weak console. On the other hand, Nvidia has a history of providing high-end performance.
There have recently been a lot of speculation on the web about the console's specs and features. That includes one about the handheld version of the Nintendo system.
The recent rumor on SemiAccurate is that the portable console would include a Nvidia Tegra-based System on Chip (SoC). Nintendo reportedly got a good deal from the chip giant.
Nvidia has played down its lower profit margins for consoles. However, the company was not pleased about losing console contracts with Sony and Microsoft.
The chipmaker will reportedly provide software and support in the deal at a rock-bottom cost. However, no details have been provided about which generation of Tegra would be included in the handheld console.
Nintendo has been struggling financially for almost a year while its profits have dropped 61 percent. The software company recently informed shareholders that its new gaming system is far in the development process.
There has been no news reported about the NX home console. Nintendo NX is set to launch in March 2017 in all regions.
In related news, the price tag f Nintendo's 2DS portable has been dropped to $80, according to Engadget. It also includes a free copy of "Mario Kart 7."
The gaming device also plays DS games so there is over a decade of games to choose from. Some top games for 2DS include "Pokemon X and Y," "Super Mario 3D Land," "Super Smash Bros." and "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D."
