California-based mobile game maker Glu Mobile, Inc. will develop a free-to-play mobile game starring popular pop singer Katy Perry.
Glu will use Perry's likeness and voice in the game that will be released later this year, said The Motley Fool. It signed a five-year exclusive mobile gaming partnership with Perry last week.
Glu will launch the game on Apple and Android mobile devices. It hopes to replicate the market success of its previous celebrity mobile game, The Kim Kardashian Hollywood game, which raked in big money for Glu.
The Katy Perry mobile game will introduce gamers to "a digital playground of global success and talent. PC Mag speculates Glu will likely borrow elements from the successful Kim Kardashian: Hollywood to develop the Katy Perry game.
"Katy is arguably the most recognized musician in America following her Super Bowl XLIX halftime performance this past Sunday," said Glu CEO Niccolo de Masi.
"She is a cultural icon and we expect to translate key elements of her success into an innovative, highly entertaining mobile experience. We anticipate that Katy's significant global audience, including more than 170 million fans on social media, will make her a strong gaming partner for Glu".
Perry has 77 million Facebook followers; 64.6 million Twitter followers and 14.2 million Instagram followers. Glu looks to these numbers as a sign the Katy Perry game will achieve market success.
The Kim Kardashian game, however, remains Glu's best seller, raking in $74.3 million in adjusted revenues in 2014.
Founded in 2001, Glu mobile games run on multiple platforms, including iOS, Android, Amazon, Windows Phone and Google Chrome.
