Miss A's Suzy has been named as the female host for this year's 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony. The 21-year-old singer-actress will be co-hosting with the permanent male MC, comedian Shin Dong-Yup.
The good news came to light when multiple insiders in the entertainment industry told Soompi that Suzy is the newest female face of this year's Baeksang Awards. It is the first time in six years that the prestigious event will be hosted by a different actress, as the veteran actress Kim Ah Joong previously held the position.
It also marks the first time that only two MCs will preside the annual award, instead of the 3-MC system that Baeksang usually had. It should be noted that this is not the first time that miss A's Suzy will be hosting a big event.
As a matter of fact, the singer-turned-actress has hosted different prestigious awards in the past years, including the Seoul International Drama Awards, Seoul Music Awards and the Korean Musical Awards, Kpop Herald reported.
The prestigious event, which is also hailed as the South Korean Golden Globe Award, is poised to honor outstanding accomplishments in the Korean entertainment industry, particularly in film, theatre and television. It is one of the three top film awards in South Korea, after the Dae Jong Film Awards and Blue Dragon Film Awards.
Some of last year's Best Actor and Actress' Awards for television went to Lee Sung Min for "Misaeng" and Song Yun Ah for "Mama," respectively. This year's nominations for Best Actor and Actress (TV) include the "Descendants of the Sun" lead stars - Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, respectively.
Actors Jo Jin Woong (Signal) will face off against "Yong Pal's" Joo Woon; "Remember: War of the Son's" Namkoong Min; and "Six Flying Dragons'" Yoo Ah In for the Best Actor for Television Award. While in the Best Actress (TV) category, "She Was Pretty's" Hwang Jung Eum is nominated alongside Kim Hye Soo (Signal), Kim Hyun Joo (I Have a Lover) and Ra Mi-Ran (Reply 1988).
The 52nd annual Baeksang Arts Awards will be handed out on June 3, in a festive ceremony that will take place at the Grand Peace Hall in Kyung Hee University, Seoul, South Korea. It will be simulcast on JTBC network.
