Super Junior's Kangin, whose real name is Kim Young Woon, is once again involved in another drunk driving hit-and-run mishap on May 24, Tuesday. The newly-released CCTV footage released by the local authorities captures the moment that the incident occurred.
The footage, taken around 2 a.m. (KST) from a closed-circuit security camera, shows a still black Mercedes-Benz' crashed into a streetlight post in front of a convenience store in Shinsa-dong, Seoul, South Korea. Following the crash, the SUV is seen dashing down the road, seemingly escaping the scene of the accident.
It was learned that the car was being driven by the 31-year-old singer, after he turned himself to the police 11 hours after. Kangin was recorded to have a blood alcohol content of 0.05 percent when he arrived at the station, which is sufficient to get his driving license suspended.
Further, a separate footage broadcasted on "MBN News 8" on May 24, Tuesday, shows Kangin going into a shop and purchased an alcohol beverage. The singer's agency, SM Entertainment, later confirmed the news through a press statement released to the different newsstand in South Korea.
"It is true that Kangin had a DUI (Driving under the Influence) accident," SM Entertainment said in a press release statement obtained by Soompi. "Kangin contacted the police regarding the accident and received an investigation at the arranged time."
The statement also relayed Kangin's apology to all his fans across the globe, stating that the singer-actor is deeply remorseful of his actions. In addition, SM announced that Kangin will cease all entertainment-related timetables to take some time off to self-reflect.
The singer was poised to appear in the second half of the new season of SBS's "Law of the Jungle," alongside co-member Park Jeong-Su aka Leeteuk. Due to the incident, the show will reportedly edit Kangin's parts out as much as possible, as it is difficult for the production team to reshoot the program. Kangin's appearances' as a Special DJ on KBS's "Super Junior's Kiss the Radio" program have also been canceled.
It should be noted that this marks Kangin's second DUI incident since Oct. 16, 2009, wherein the singer collided into a parked taxi and shortly left the scene of the accident. With a recorded blood alcohol substance of 0.082 percent, Kangin was summarily prosecuted for drunk driving hit-and-run and fined 8 million won ($6,762.80) by the Seoul Central District Court on Jan. 13, 2010, Asiae reported.
