While people are looking forward to the release of iPhone 7, which is said to be on September 2017, rumors and speculations about iPhone 8 also surfaced with some sources revealing about its features.
Battery life is one of the priorities for the design of the new phone, especially since it is one feature that Apple is guilty about. UK Tech Weekly Podcast also talked about the developments of the battery using stacked battery cells like that of the 12-inch MacBook with lithium-oxygen cells for longer battery life. It is also said that the battery will use a principle like motion charging and maybe even solar power.
Its design will be more durable using Sapphire screens instead of Gorilla Glass which is more resistant. With the threat of using Sapphire screens, Corning Glass Technologies announced a composite material codenamed Project Phine which is superior damage resistant and its drop performance is like the Gorilla Glass 4 that is scratch resistant, MacWorld reported.
It is also rumored that Graphene might be used since it creates a more durable coating material for the screens. It will also use viscoelastic material that will absorb impact and will also feature waterproof materials. There is also a possibility of having a flexible iPhone 8 with Bezel-free design.
OLED screen will also be used with a 3D display and even hologram cells. Since Apple was granted patent for "Electronic devices with sidewall displays," it may also apply that for the new phone. Touch ID display is another feature Apple is considering which includes a fingerprint-sensing layer.
"Last week Applied Materials reported an almost fourfold leap in orders for equipment to make displays, an early sign producers are retooling their manufacturing to meet Apple's demand for a new kind of organic light-emitting diode, or OLED, screen," Bloomberg reported.
The iPhone 8 camera will have a Light Splitter resulting into 'Super-resolution' photos with DSLR-quality. Apple is also looking into having interchangeable iPhone camera lenses.
In terms of security and privacy, it might feature face-detection passwords which will allow the users to unlock their phone using face recognition. It will also have an attack detection mode which is an emergency service when the users are in a distress.
