The first time Blake Shelton, 39, and Gwen Stefani, 46, performed their collaboration song "Go Ahead and Break My Heart" live together was on the stage of "The Voice" Season 10. Recently, the former explained the lyrics of the song and did not mention Gavin Rossdale, who he reportedly is angry with.
Shelton told Today that the song "Go Ahead and Break My Heart" reflects how he and Stefani accept the fact that will likely have its share of ups and downs. Miranda Lambert's former husband explained, "It was hard to kind of let our guards down again, you know what I mean?"
"Just going through some issues, and so that's what the song was even written about," Shelton explained. He added that the song seems to say that a person knows something bad is going to happen, because it always does, so "let's just get it over with now."
While the song title appears to refer to Shelton and Stefani's former spouses, the former mentioned neither Rossdale nor Lambert. However, a source recently claimed that Shelton has nothing to do with Rossdale and noted that the former is disgusted with the former.
"He can't forgive someone who treated his lady that way," the source told Us Weekly. According to the source, Shelton is angry with Rossdale because he cheated on Stefani with their children' nanny.
Shelton and Stefani announced their relationship in November 2015. It was months after their respective breakups with their former spouses.
Both Shelton and Stefani recently released an album. The latter released her third studio album as a solo artist titled "This is What the Truth Feels Like" on March 18 under Interscope Records. The album has 12 tracks including a collaboration song titled "Asking 4 It" featuring Fetty Wap.
On May 20, Shelton released his 10th studio album titled "If I'm Honest." The album has 15 tracks including "Go Ahead and Break My Heart," "Doing It to Country Songs" featuring The Oak Ridge Boys and "Friends" from "The Angry Birds Movie," which features Sean Penn, Peter Dinklage, Bill Hader and Kate McKinnon as voice actors.
