While Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is one a few months old, reports are rife that Microsoft is set to release the much-rumored Surface Pro 5 in June. Earlier reports had it that the tablet-cum-laptop may be delayed until spring 2017. Now, it is reported that that the gadget's release may coincide with Windows 10 Redstone 2 update.
Microsoft is set to premiere its Surface Pro 5 to get ahead of Apple's hyped introduction of the MacBook Pro 2016. The Cupertino-based tech giant will likely release its MacBook Pro 2016 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC" slated for June 13.
Considering the Surface Pro 4 was unveiled in October 2015, a June release of its successor is being overambitious. However, since there were many complaints about the hybrid tablet with regard to battery issues, fans can see the Surface Pro 5 earlier. The tech giant announced its Surface Pro 3 in May 2014, with many models becoming available in late June the same year, according to Tech Radar, so it is very likely.
Another indication that Microsoft will have an earlier release date for the Surface Pro 5 is the massive discounts being offered on older models of the tablet, including Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. There is a limited time offer with free Dock and Pen Tip Kit for $122, according to Microsoft Store official website.
Meanwhile, there are speculations that Microsoft may release the device during the imminent Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016, scheduled for June 14-16. This could be true given that the event coincides with Apple's WWDC event, and it will give Microsoft a chance to get ahead of rivals.
Other reports link the June release date for the Surface Pro 5 with the launch of Intel's Kaby Lake processor that may possibly feature in the new model. Intel will reportedly launch its next-generation Kaby Lake processor at the Computex event starting May 31 in Taipei.
Initial rumors suggested that the Surface Pro 5 would release in October since Microsoft will not possibly disrupt the annual product life cycle of the tablets. Based on earlier reports that the tech giant will introduce a new hardware together with the Windows 10 Redstone 2 update to concentrate on the future of mobile phones, a spring 2017 release is logical.
However, all these are but rumors since Microsoft has not made any official announcement about the release of its Surface Pro 5. Here is a sneak peek for Microsoft Surface Pro 5 specs and features.
