Despite supply concerns, Taiwanese smartphone marker HTC emphasized its commitment to its partnership with U.S. chipmaker Qualcomm on Friday.
Investors have belied their concerns that there would be chipset supply problems in HTC's high-end phones, but the company is not yet worried.
According to the chief financial officer and president of global sales at HTC, Chang Cha-lin, the company's good working relationship with Qualcomm cannot just be taken for granted. This is why it would not stop working with it and is excited about their future cooperation.
"We're very excited about working with Qualcomm and leveraging their high-end flagship chipset solutions," Chang shared to investors in an earnings conference call.
"HTC feels very comfortable working with Qualcomm, and (we) cherish that kind of historical relationship, and we feel very positive going forward," he added.
Apart for supply concerns, other companies that have worked with Qualcomm reported other problems. Bloomberg reported that Samsung had claimed that there were overheating issues with Qualcomm chipsets. This is why Samsung would not work with Qualcomm anymore with its next flagship phones and would just develop and use its own processors. The next version of the flagship Galaxy S series would already drop the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip because it overheated when tested.
For its part, Qualcomm did not address these overheating and supply issues just yet. It said that its production schedules are still on track.
However, Lenovo, the first phonemaker to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip, said that its phone G Flex 2 smartphone did not have any overheating issues.
