The countdown to "Moonlight Drawn By Clouds" have officially begun. KBS2 announced today that the highly-anticipated period drama will premiere on August 1 at 10:00 p.m. EST.
"Reply 1998's" Park Bo Gum and actress Kim Yoo Jung have been cast in lead roles, along with B1A4's Jinyoung, "Cheer Up!" Chae Soo Bin, and uprising actor Lee Seo Won. The ensemble main cast participated in the first script reading session on May 26 at the KBS Annex Broadcasting Station in Yeouido, South Korea, Soompi reported.
The upcoming drama is based on Yoon Yi Soo's 2013-2014 popular web novel called "Gooreumi Geuirin Dalbit." The highly anticipated drama recounts the coming-of-age story of Lee Yeong aka Crown Prince Hyomyeong (Bo Gum) and the youthful romance ensue during the 19th-century of Joseon Dynasty.
"We expect Park to successfully portray Hyomyung's growth from youth to a revered Joseon leader," a representative from KBS said in a statement obtained by The Korea Herald
Actress Yoo Jung will play as a daughter of a traitor, Hong Ra-On, a beautiful woman who cross-dresses as a Eunuch of Crown Prince Hyomyeong, while Soo Bin will portray the benevolent and worldly, Jo Ha Yeon, a chosen imperial consort for Prince Hyomyeong. Further, singer-actor Jinyoung has been cast to play the charismatic and poised, Kim Yoon Sung, who has an antagonistic relationship with Prince Hyomyeong and lastly, Seo Woon as Lee Young's childhood friend named Kim Byung-Yeon aka poet Kim Sat Gat.
Besides the above-mentioned characters, veteran actors Kim Seung Soo, Jang Gwang and Cheon Ho Jin have also been given respective supporting roles in the drama. Seung Soo will play the father of Lee Yeong, King Sunjo, who is the 23rd ruler of Joseon. Jang as Chief Eunuch Han Sang-Ik and Ho Jin as a Joseon statesman, Kim Jo Soon, who is Kim Yoon Sung's grandfather.
The 20-episode drama series was developed for television by executive producer Kang Byung Taek. It is directed by Kim Sung Yoon and Baek Sang Hoon, with a script penned by Kim Min Jung and Im Ye-Jin.
"Moonlight Drawn By Clouds" will air every Monday and Tuesday on KBS2. It is poised to take over the 10:00 p.m. EST time slot, currently occupied by "Beautiful Mind." Check out the video below:
