This year's 26th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced one more cast member for the second season of the TV anime adaptation of Yūto Tsukuda's "Food Wars: Shokugeki no Sōma" shōnen manga series. Hiroki Yasumoto, who is best known as Agil in "Sword Art Online," will voice the 92nd Tōtsuki Generation student named Subaru Mimasaka.
Yasumoto's Subaru Mimasaka is being hailed as King of Stalkers, as a result of his cuisine style dubbed as Perfect Trace. According to Etsuya Eizan aka Alquimista, Mimasaka's unique foundation for his cooking is mimicry, since he lacks the cooking spirit that others have.
Following his own mantra, Mimasaka thoroughly examine his opponents' habits and cooking styles to take the latter's intended dish recipes. He then successfully emulates the dish by improving its taste. It is said that using this style gave Mimasaka an impeccable 99 win streak in the past.
Described as an extremely tall, fair skinned and well-built man, Mimasaka is poised to have a stupendous Shokugeki battle against Sōma Yukihira in the semi-final round of Tōtsuki Autumn Election, Crunchy Roll reported. Yukihira and Mimasaka's much-anticipated Shokugeki battle will have the theme of Western-style dishes.
Yasumoto will join previously announced voice actors, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Yukihira, Risa Taneda as Erina Nakiri, Minami Takashi as Megumi Tadokoro and Junichi Suwabe as Akira Hayama. Other voice cast members include Nobuhiko Okamoto, Natsuki Hanae, Saori Onishi, and Chinatsu Akasaki.
The anime's second season will be directed by J.C. Staff's Yoshitomo Yonetani with a script penned by Shogo Yasukawa. Tomoyuki Shitaya is the in-charge of the anime character design, Jin Aketagawa as the sound executive, while Tatsuya Katou will be composing the series' soundtrack.
Further, SCREEN mode and nano.RIPE will respectively perform the opening and ending theme songs of the anime's second season. The forthcoming season will grasp the title of "Food Wars! Shokugeki no Sōma: The Second Plate" and is scheduled to premiere in Japan sometime in July.
Much to the delight of fans, a 25-minute original video animation (OVA) will be bundled with the 19th volume of the original manga, which will release on July 4, Anime News Network reported. The bundled OVA is expected to feature an original story about Yukihira and his friends amid a short summer getaway before the Autumn Elections.
"Food Wars: Shokugeki no Sōma" revolves around Yukihira's adventure, as he further hone his cooking skills in Totsuki Culinary Academy, a renowned international school famed for its one percent graduation rate. Not long after the first anime season aired from May to September 2015 for 24-episode, the series immediately became one of the most critically acclaimed anime across the globe in light of its real world cooking techniques and realistic dishes from a wide range of cuisine.
