Kung Fu superstar Jackie Chan expressed his disappointment but admitted to his own faults as a father when he finally broke his silence about his son’s imprisonment during the premiere of his film “Dragon Blade.”
Admittedly disappointed at what happened to his son, the 60-year-old Hong Kong actor confessed that he had not become the best father to Jaycee, who had been recently incarcerated for the use of controlled substance.
During his new flick's premiere on Sunday, he decided to take responsibility for what his son has turned out to be.
"I have been busy and my family is fine. They have experienced many things due to my fame. But life cannot be perfect. You cannot have a good family at the same time as everything else," Chan told Sina.com.cn.
Jaycee Chan, Jackie's 32-year-old American-born son, was taken into police custody August last year by Beijing police after he was caught red-handed with marijuana both in his possession as well as in his apartment.
After he pleaded guilty of drug possession, Jaycee was penalized through a fine of 2,000 yuan ($322) and was detained for six months in a jail in Beijing.
Jackie, who revealed that he did not experience the love of his father when he was young, admitted to thinking that children should be allowed to experience hard decisions and challenges on their own as they mature.
"I hope my son can get through it and beat the temptations and mistakes in life. Maybe I'm wrong, but I really think so. Maybe I was too strict for him in the past," he explained and added further that feeding his family does not make him the best husband or a good father.
"Of course Jaycee can stay in my shadow and my money and do nothing for the rest of his life. But I always told him, don't stand in my shadow. Do things you should do, earn money you should earn. He is always under great pressure from me and he works hard," he added.
